Delta Phi Epsilon is the first and only Panhellenic Organization to have a transgender and non-binary inclusion policy. Everyone is welcome in Delta Phi Epsilon. Every single member is valued, loved, and given every opportunity to learn and grow as a leader.
Delta Phi Epsilon was founded by five women in 1917 during a time when inclusivity and diversity were lacking. Therefore, they formed Delta Phi Epsilon with the purpose of accepting all races and religions. Dela Phi Epsilon was one of the first non-sectarian, social sororities to do so.
At Carleton University, we recognize our positionality and are constantly working towards equality within our organization, the university environment, the Ottawa community, and beyond. Our membership is based entirely on personal values because we see you for who you are. We will make every effort to ensure you feel welcome, seen, and heard as a member of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Transgender and Non-Binary Inclusion Policy
"Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority is welcoming and inclusive of trans women and non-binary individuals. Any conduct which fosters a hostile environment for trans members and non-binary individuals will not be tolerated.
Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority will include trans members and non-binary individuals as members in all areas of the organization as long as they are willing to accept and share in the collective experiences of the sisterhood.
Members have the right to be addressed by a name and pronoun that they prefer.
If a member would like to change their preferred name and/or preferred pronouns, they may do so without prejudice or discrimination."
Advocating for Indgenous Land Recognition
Our 2021-2022 Chapter President, Alexandra Tassoni, represented our Carleton Chapter at the Delta Phi Epsilon International Leadership Forum (ILF) in July 2022. In front of representatives from each Chapter across the USA and Canada as well as the International Governing Board, alumnae, and media, Alexandra advocated for the recognition of Indigenous land on which we reside and led the ILF attendees in a Land Acknowledgement. Our Chapter at Carleton University recognizes that we operate on unceded Algonquin land because of the violence that occurred and continues to occur on the land. As such, we are committed to supporting Indigenous organizations and ensuring our Indigenous members feel safe and respected at all times.

Social Justice Series
Our founders were women who challenged the status quo in the pursuit of justice and equality.
Delta Phi Epsilon's Headquarters has provided members, alumni, and the general public access to their social justice series: a set of resources and opportunities to educate ourselves about issues impacting communities and populations around the world. From speaker panels to webinars to published articles, Delta Phi Epsilon provides resources to learn and grow so that we become global citizens.
If we fail to recognize the contributions of racialized people and communities, then we are not representing our chapter and sisterhood. Delta Phi Epsilon is arguably the most diverse and inclusive Panhellenic organization because we recognize that unless we share all stories and ensure all voices are heard.
Respect at Our Core
Delta Phi Epsilon was established to create a safe space where everyone is welcome and safe. In fact, Delta Phi Epsilon was the first non-sectarian social sorority to be accepting of all races and religions.
Our recruitment process and membership are based on values that correlate to Justice, Sisterhood, and Love as we want to get to know the real you.
Our Chapter at Carleton University prides itself on the individuality and diversity of our members because although we are all from different backgrounds, we come together in a sisterhood that is unbreakable. Our sisterhood is based on the foundation of respect for each other, for our values, and for ourselves.
Our organization strongly condemns racism, injustice, and the abuse of power in no uncertain terms and this will never change. For every member - past, present, and future, we will always be there for you.
Advocacy and Action
Our Committment to Indigenous Advocacy
Alexandra Tassoni represented our Chapter and our values internationally in Florida. Our chapter advocated for land acknowledgments at the beginning of every event and addressing inequalities impacting Indigenous populations as one of our priorities.
As one of two Canadian Delta Phi Epsilon Chapters, it is our duty to be advocates for the people living on this land, especially for those who have been, and continue to be, negatively impacted by systems of power and oppression resulting from the colonial legacies and settler presence.
